Ransomware

C. Lar*** (yes, altered the name for your protection. Does this help you trust that I am a white hat cyber professional?

As I was saying on Facebook, I am happy to review what your experience was with ransomware.

I do hear plenty of scammers who will scare you into thinking that they have ransomware on your device, but they actually do not. That is likely the most common situation.

We see that quite a bit with sextortion. You can read my article on that here on this site.

I know that you said that you had contact the police and likely a few others. The only agengies that can really do anything with your situation is the FBI. When I was helping my family member with sextortion, they were of no use. In fact, they never contacted me with my three reports.

I could go on and on with possible situations, but until I get basic information from you, it would not help either of us, unless I were to just write a book of all the possible combinatiuons.

Let me guess at one of the most common possibilities. You got a call, telling you (perhap from someone claiming to be Microsoft) that you have ransomware on your computer/phone. for a fee that they can fix it for you. Maybe they had you help them  get remote access inside your device so that they could fix it. now, they are holding your device virtually hostage until you pay some large amount?
